Manolo Blahnik - a love affair

I am having an affair; my boyfriend doesn’t know about it but it’s been going on for a while and I have no intention of ending it. I’m very good at keeping the secret; I hide all the evidence so he will never find out.

My secret love is long and lean, perfectly formed and has a perfect summer look of white and tan skin. I first saw him one night, it was a Thursday and girls night, late night shopping trip. I locked in on him and got his number before we left for cocktails.

That night I got online as soon as I got home and arranged a new credit card, that way, when I needed it for him, my darling boyfriend would never find a trace. I could easily get away with $100 here and there for shopping but not his, this was going to be major.

The next day I was back and looking at him again. He was as lovely as I had imagined. I had tossed and turned all night thinking of him and now fantasy was becoming reality.

We left holding hands, like it didn’t matter who saw us and just having him by my side made me feel wonderful. I took him home and we sat on the bed.
The bed my boyfriend and I slept in! I pulled him out and sighed, he was amazing, like I’d never had before, I lay there for hours with him next to me, smiling and looking at him.

I heard my boyfriend come in the front door so I stashed him in the wardrobe, he hide there for some time but when my husband went to the gym that night he came out and we went for a cocktail. I kept shyly looking at my feet.

It carried on like this for weeks, time with my boyfriend, and time with my lover. It wasn’t until two weeks later that the inevitable happened; they were both going to be at the same party.

I could hardly breathe all night. I was waiting for my boyfriend to notice him, I was sure he would know right away. After getting me a mojito my boyfriend walked back to me and glared at me ‘How dare you?’ he said. I froze, my legs and lips unable to move.

‘What?’

‘Look so beautiful.’

I giggled; my secret was safe. I was sure we had been discovered and was terrified of the scene my boyfriend would make but like the best liars I got away with it.

My lover caressed me all night and touched me softly; no one noticed his touch, that’s how I knew we were perfect. I went home with my boyfriend and kicked off my shoes without giving him another thought, we lay in bed happy and content.

Of course, it didn’t end there, I went out with my lover all the time, I would look at him and without talking for hours knowing it would have to end but relishing every moment.

We walked the streets together, people on Chapel Street would stop and look at us and admire him.

The lady in Louis Vuitton on Collins street told me how luck I was when we went there. What could be better than this?

In winter I skipped over puddles not wanting to get him wet. A friend of mine caught us out one day, she was shocked of course and pleased, she swore never to tell a sole. And of course, I took such good care of him.

When he was wet I would dry him, late at night I would rub moisturiser into him. I was completely smitten.

It wasn’t until spring that the lustre started to rub off. I saw him less and less, I still loved him but it wasn’t as thrilling as when we first met. My mother found out and told me to stop seeing him. I explained how well he gets on with everyone and how he suites me perfectly.

He really did, we were a perfect match. I slipped into him like a glove. He made me feel so special and wonderful; he was pure indulgence and the luxury was overwhelming at times. He got on so well with everyone it was amazing, it was as if he changed to suit them somehow.

My best friend knew all about us, in fact, she thought it was wonderful and was thinking of doing the same. She introduced me to a new man named Christian and I admit, I toyed with the idea for a few days but it wasn’t the same. He didn’t have the grace and style of my man. If I were going to do this, I’d do it with the best.

After that, things got better, we would go out together and of course we could now meet up with another secret couple. We went on double dates to the movies and for dinner.

My friend and I always told our boyfriends we were going out together, never mentioning whom else would be there. She used my trick of a secret extra credit card too so all evidence was hidden.

Now we just go out as a pair, and I love it. I have no intention of telling my boyfriend ever. And, if he finds out, we’ll deal with it then; but it will be a tough decision between the two of them. After all, I do love him.

His name? Manolo Blahnik.
