Reduce your Christmas spending and reinvent your wardrobe with accessories

by Jeanette Cleary designer & artisan

It’s getting to that busy time of year when talk off Kris Kringle, BBQ’s and office Christmas parties begin.

As you are spending every free moment working on reducing your Christmas list, have you spared a thought to what you will be wearing this festive season?

Chances are you need look no further than your own wardrobe.

I’ve been talking to a lot of women lately about reinventing their wardrobe by the accessories they wear, or even how they just feel better when they accessorise their outfit.

Whether it’s your around-the-house clothes or your work clothes, the principle is the same. The simplest outfit can take on a whole new look by adding a necklace or a belt. Or try wearing a necklace as a belt.

When we look at people it’s the same as looking at art. Our eyes are drawn to one thing first then dart around the canvas and notice the other details.

Here are a few accessorising tips:

Keep it simple. It’s best to have one thing as a focal point and work around it.

Dress to your own tastes. If you don’t feel comfortable you won’t look comfortable.

Take your height into consideration. You don’t want to crowd the canvas.
Use colourful accessories to give a lift to that black.

Colour of the moment: Red.

Mix it with: black, white, olive, navy, pink or bronze.

Wear it: shoes, bag, belt, jewellery, sunglasses, nail and toe polish.
