A fowl tale Ducking for cover By Fabrizio Marsani
Occasionally, when one of the hens (who has never experienced being a mother hen) gets a little too close to our mother duck and her ducklings, she finds herself on the receiving end of the mother duck’s swift and protective strike. I think she’s teaching them a valuable lesson: don’t come between a mother and her babies or you’ll cop a chop. Our hens are coming to the conclusion that worms don’t bite back but protective mother ducks do, and that it’s best to stick to what you know best. In their case, it’s scratching about and digging up worms! If you like my stories please email me: fmarsani@yahoo.com.au |
