Making jewellery that people dream about

Walking into the Chivali showroom in Richmond takes you back to the days when the jeweller was positioned with his array of fine tools behind the counter. It’s a real joy to witness at close hand such intricate and delicate skills on display.
Terry (Terence) Dillon, the master goldsmith who runs Chivali, has enjoyed a lifestyle that many of us only get to dream about. He left his native New Zealand for Western Australia before settling in tropical Darwin for the past 10 years. Along the way he has finetuned his skills by working with various materials including rare pearls, unusual gemstones, plus the precious stuff.

Care and attention to detail

Terry’s greatest joy is in hand crafting individual pieces of jewellery through a series of close consultations with his clients.

This process enables ideas to be discussed and the client to be an integral part of the design process.

These are often challenging assignments, he says, but the result is something of rare beauty which will live on for generations.

Artisan jewellery is special and distinct from any mass-produced product. The practice dates back as far as 7000 BC when gold and copper was first sculpted to adorn the human form. Being a proud member of the prestigious Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia also serves to highlight the credentials behind Terry’s growing practice.

Visit Chivali’s website and see for yourself the kind of contemporary jewellery that Terry has fashioned from mere dreams. His work after all is only limited by your own imagination.
