Do you snore? Are you always tired? Snoring can have a huge impact on relationships and it could also be affecting your health. There are many medically proven treatments to stop your snoring immediately, but the most suitable treatment depends on how bad it is. How bad is it? A home diagnostic sleep study is the best way to determine how severe your snoring is. The sleep study may also assist in the diagnosis of up to 88 other sleep disorders which may be causing tiredness or sleepless nights. Fortunately, recent advances in technology enable the sleep study to be performed in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Most of the cost is covered by Medicare. What can a sleep study tell me? The sleep study records your sleep patterns, breathing, leg movements and heart-rate. A video camera also confirms body position and snoring loudness. The three main physiological variables reported are: 1. Arousal Index – this is how many times you wake up each hour of sleep. It is a measure of the quality of your sleep. |
2. Respiratory Disturbance Index – this is a measure of how many times each hour you stop breathing or wake up from poor breathing. 3. Periodic Leg Movement Index – restless legs can also keep people awake and disrupt sleep.
