What works in lighting?

Halogen down lights are a very popular, attractive and stylish feature in many new homes and renovated properties. They are an attractive option with smooth flush mounting and can light up a room very effectively.

Unfortunately down lights have some intrinsic problems that you should be aware of. Due to the gap between the fitting and the halogen globe, air tends to escape, thus compromising your air conditioning and reducing your home’s energy efficiency.

Even worse down lights are known to be a fire hazard. Recently it has been reported that every 3 to 5 days in Australia a fire is attributed to a down light.

Reduce the fire hazard

Adam Topp of Wattwerx Electrical Services has over 14 years experience as an electrician. He can make your down lights safer and more effective through installing down light guards. These adapt to the down light, enclosing the hot parts of the fittings including the transformer and globe.

This prevents dust build up and reduces the fire hazard of insulation, rodents, branches and leaves coming into contact with the down light.

Energy efficiency

Down light guards improve energy efficiency by preventing air escaping through the hole in the ceiling where the down light is installed. With hot summer days and dry conditions caused by the drought, down light guards will make your home safer and more energy efficient. Adam can assess your down light situation, suggest changes and improvements or help with any other electricial installation and maintenance you may require.
