Asian cuisine reigns supreme

Kotaraya cooks up a truly mouthwatering fusion of authentic Malaysian, Chinese and Thai cuisine. And to prove their mastery of the art they have consistently swept the board at the Asian Food Festival Awards from 2000 onwards. This is the culinary equivalent of the Oscars for Asian food judged by a panel of peer group epicures and critics.

This success has allowed part-owner Johnny Chua and his team to open up two other eateries in conjunction with the Glenhuntly Road flagship. These are Kotaraya in Clayton and the funky KL Café in Acland Street St Kilda.

Delivering the goods

A signature dish for Kotaraya is the award winning coconut butter king prawns.

It would be hard to find another restaurant that comes close to matching these exquisite prawns as they come stir fried and smothered in a marinade of chilli, butter and toasted coconut, all served on a bed of crispy pastry with a garnish of orange slices for light relief.

Amongst the other delights to be sampled includes their famous Curry Laksa, made from a unique recipe which draws regulars from far and wide.

Also on the menu is an array of pork, chicken and beef curries, as well as regular noodle dishes such as Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng, plus the mighty Special Thai Fish.

Creating a fan base

14 years of high praise from a grateful clientele has cemented Kotaraya’s success in the local community. In fact loyal patronage is something the team strive hard to achieve through a combination of swift service and truly friendly ambiance. All this comes courtesy of an extremely reasonable price list bursting with specials.

They are open 6 days for lunch and dinner. On the Monday they take a well-earned rest from the toil of producing some of the best asian food around.

The usual conditions apply regarding dine in, take away or home delivery within the local community. Please enjoy.
